Keswick Pair Triumph in National Final

Husband and wife Tony and Dawn Stamper last week combined to win the national final of the Douglas Bader Foundation Golf Tournament. After winning the regional final at Darlington Golf Club earlier in the season their reward was an all expenses paid trip to Portugal to take on the other regional finalists.

Now in its 21st year the tournament is a fund raiser for the Bader Foundation and is widely regarded as the largest mixed golf tournament in Europe. The final was played over the Alamos golf course in the Portimao region of the Algarve. The Stampers were competing against 11 other pairs from all over Britain to try and land the title.

Presentation Night

Keswick Golf Club’s presentation night was recently held at the clubhouse with over 50 people attending to congratulate this season’s trophy winners.

Winners & runners up of the main club championships were: Club Championship, Men:   Adam Swainbank; Ladies: Pam Dobinson; Handicap Championship Men: Bernard Kitching; Ladies: Judy Figg; Senior Masters: Ian Pettigrew; Ladies Bronze: Barbara Hancock; Mixed Doubles: Tony & Dawn Stamper; Mens Doubles: Colin Mason &  Stephen Barnes

Adam retains title on Finals Day

Adam Swainbank, who holds the course record at Threlkeld Hall, faced an uphill task when the second round of the Club Championship got underway on Saturday afternoon.  John Hartshorn who plays off 9 and Adam off 5 were head to head in the final that is played off scratch over 36 holes.  John played some magnificent golf in the morning session and had gone in to lunch three up.  After the break Adam soon began the fight back and despite sturdy resistance from John he played his way back into the match.  Standing on the 18th tee Adam was one up and closed out the match to take the title for the second year running by winning the last hole.

International Pairs Win

Keswick Members Richard Barnes, 13 handicap but playing of 10 and Keswick Steward Alan McNichol, handicap 20, playing of 15 qualifiedthrough a Club Competition for  the International Pairs regional final, which was played on Monday 13 October.
